Flash floods on Aug 20 last wrought havoc and battered the infrastructure of Jaffarabad district in Balochistan. Since then, no measure has been taken to reconstruct and repair the unpaved roads and drains.

So roads and drains are depicting a grim picture of the destruction. There is dust in the air which is causing several ailments. Indeed, this shows the apathetic performance of the administration towards public issues despite a lapse of two years. During his visit to Dera Murad Jamali, President Zardari declared Jafarabad as a role model for implementing technology-based solution to flood issues. But this promise still remains unfulfilled. Regrettably, area MPs too are restricted to paying lip-service and making hollow claims, while problems are piling up.

Currently several national and international NGOs are running their different projects in Jaffarabad for reconstruction and rehabilitation of calamity-hit areas, but their efforts too are in vain in view of the corruption that plagues the development sector.

Water has become contaminated and is affecting the health of the people of Jaffarabad. The authorities concerned must urgently reconstruct and repair roads, buildings, etc.
