ATTOCK, Feb 3:  In view of increasing number of kidnapping for ransom, murder, robbery and other such incidents, a special anti-criminal squad is being formed to ensure protection of life and property of the citizens.

In an exclusive chat with Dawn, District Police Officer (DPO) Dr Muhammad Akhtar Abbas said on Friday that the special police squad would perform under SP Investigation.  He said especially-trained personnel of Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) would be inducted in the team to combat heinous crimes in an effective manner.

Moreover, he said, Rescue 15 was being upgraded by equipping it with vehicles and providing it additional staff so that it might act quickly in case of any emergency.

On a query about serious public reservation about police performance and sense of insecurity among the citizens in respect of frequent kidnapping for ransom and robbery incidents, the DPO said it was a general phenomenon that people criticised police but, in fact, police department was doing the best to curb the crimes as police never wanted to lower their credibility. He said the police lacked required technology and modern investigation equipments necessary for tracing serious crimes. — Correspondent
