PESHAWAR, Nov 30: The amount of Sadqa-i-Fitr for current year had been fixed at Rs18, District Khateeb Auqaf and known religious scholar, Prof Abdul Ghafoor, said here on Saturday.
Talking to APP, Prof Ghafoor said according to market price of 1.45kg wheat, the amount for Fitrana of Eid-ul-Fitr for this year had been calculated at Rs18.
He also urged the faithful to pay the Fitrana amount to poor so that they could also celebrate Eid.
Sadqa-i-Fitr, he further said, was meant at seeking pardon over mistakes committed during the sacred month of Ramazan through payment of the said amount among the needy.
It is obligatory upon all those Muslims who had more than Rs6,000 cash or valuables like gold or silver in their possession to pay Sadqa-i-Fitr, he said.
However, if a person who was head of a family and possessed such amount, will also pay for his minors, he added.
Prof Ghafoor further said that unlike Zakat, passage of one year time on Rs6,000 was not necessary for payment of Sadqa-i-Fitr.
If a person had Rs6,000 or more or some valuables equivalent to this on the day of Eid, would have to pay Sadqa-i-Fitr, he said.
However, those who could afford more and wanted to pay more than Rs18, could calculate their Sadqa-i-Fitr with the market price of 1.45kg of dates, cheese, raisin, etc., Prof Ghafoor further said.
The most deserving people for payment of Sadqa-i-Fitr are close relatives followed by neighbours or any other poor person.—APP
