Punjab dominates youth sports

LAHORE, Nov 29: Punjab has created history in youth sports events by winning all the Pakistan inter-provincial under-16 during the year 2001-2, according to the information provided by Sports Board Punjab (PSB) Friday.

Punjab athletes struck dream performance for a clean sweep in an competition of teams from four provinces, Islamabad and Azad Kashmir.

Punjab won all 13 events of boys and saw their girls team winning five events for an encouraging performance.

Punjabs boys claimed the titles in football, weightlifting, wrestling, athletics, squash, table tennis, tennis, hockey, badminton, karate, boxing, volleyball and swimming. Girls shown excellence in athletics, squash, table tennis, badminton and hockey.

Punjab gained further distinction when their eleven athletes were declared best players in various competitions. Usman Sattar was declared best player in football, Muhammad Rasool (weightlifting), Muhammad Babar (wrestling), Farzan Rashid (squash), Fahim Abbas (table tennis), Shahzad Khan (tennis), Muhammad Zuabir (hockey), Rizwan Azam (badminton), Adeeb Asfar (boxing), Muhammad Sajjad (volleyball), Sikandar Khan (swimming).

Punjab’s Shagufta Noreen was adjudged best athletes, Sara Awan (squash), Raheela Bano (table tennis), Saleema Razzaq (badminton) and Rabia Qadir (hockey).—APP
