KARAK, Jan 27: Two teenagers drowned when a boat capsized in Lawagher dam here on Friday.

Police sources said that 14 people, including women and children, of the same family of Mamani Lawagher village were bringing firewood and other daily-use items in a boat through Lawagher dam.

They said that the boat capsized and two persons drowned while 12 others were rescued by local divers. The two were identified as Naseebullah (13), son of Ashraf Khan, and an unnamed girl (14), daughter of Amanullah.

Sources said that the local police were trying to arrange divers from other parts of the district to fish out bodies from the dam, but till filing of this report no such arrangements could be made.

They said that the district administration had called divers from other neighboring districts to retrieve the bodies from the dam as soon as possible. The Mamani Lawagher village has turned into a virtual island, as the residents had no land link to the other side of the same village and they have to use boats for bringing daily-use commodities.

ARMS RECOVERED: Police recovered a heavy cache of weapons from a shop in Amberi village here and arrested an accused during a raid late on Thursday night.

According to police, Takht Nusrati DSP Shakirullah Jan and Yaqoob Shaheed police station SHO Jehangir Khan raided the shop and recovered eight Kalashnikovs, seven rifles, 16 guns, eight pistols, 21 Kalashnikov magazines and 1,879 cartridges.

The police also arrested the accused, Qamar Zaman of Takht Nusrati, and registered an FIR against him.

Speaking to media persons, district police officer Sajjad Khan said that search operations would continue against criminal gangs. He asked the people to support police to bring all wanted criminals to justice.
