MINGORA, Nov 29: The activists of different organizations continued their protest on the fourth consecutive day on Friday against the shifting of the board of intermediate and secondary education from Saidu Sharif to Chakdara, Dir lower, and demanded of the government to review the decision.

A meeting, of the Sarhad College Teachers Association (SCTA) Post Graduate Jehanzeb college unit was held which was largely attended by the college staff here on Friday. The association’s president, Professor Sher Alamo Khan presided over the meeting.

The participants expressed their deep concern over the shifting of the board and termed it a decision against the interests of the people of the Swat, Buner and Shangla districts.

They said that at least 60,000 students would suffer if the board was not restored. They proposed that a separate board should be established at Chakdara for the people of Dir lower, Dir upper, Malakand Agency, and Bajaur Agency.

Sher Alam Khan accused both the chairman and secretary of the board for conspiring against the interests of the Swati people. He said a piece of land had already been purchased here, but construction of the board’s building was delayed for unknown reasons.

He said that the people of Swat and Dir had very good relations, but certain issues were causing disunity among the districts of the Malakand division.

The member of the National Assembly, Engineer Amir Muqam, has also criticized the action and demanded of the government to review its decision.

He, in a statement here on Friday, said that it was very difficult for the people of the far-flung areas of Shangla to come to Chakdara board, adding that the government should open branches of the board in Shangla and Buner as well.
