LARKANA, Jan 23: The Chehlum of Syed Nisar Hussain Shah, former vice- president of the Larkana chapter of the Pakistan Muslim League-N, who committed self-immolation on Dec 10 and died on 14, was observed at the old bus stand here on Monday.

Quran Khwani was held and later a gathering was arranged in which no prominent leader of the party, except Azhar Khan Kamario participated, said Ahmed Bakhsh Korai, information secretary of PML(N)'s Larkana district chapter.

Paying tributes to commitment of Nisar Shah, the speakers pledged to continue his mission. They urged the PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif to order a probe into the factors which led to his self-immolation adding that if workers were ignored, it would harm status of the party in Sindh.

Nisar Shah had torched himself as a mark of protest against central leadership of the party for ignoring diehard workers.

A day before the public meeting of Nawaz Sharif in Larkana, Nisar Shah himself had distributed a press release about his intention to take the extreme step. And the very next day, he torched himself outside the press club. He received severe burn injuries and was admitted to the Chandka Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Karachi where he died.
