HYDERABAD, Nov 27: The officer bearers of the Naujawan Welfare Committee, Tando Mohammad Khan, on Wednesday criticised malpractices in the zakat distribution.

Speaking at a news conference at the local press club, president of the committee Zuilfiaqr Kolachi, general secretary Mushtaq Hussain Brohi as well as Shakeel Ahmed Mallah and Mehboob Kolachi, said that the zakat funds, meant for orphans, disabled and destitute people, were being misused in their Taluka.

Accusing the chairman of the zakat committee of nepotism and corruption, they said he was distributing zakat among undeserving people.

They demanded of the government to institute an inquiry against the chairman of the Taluka Zakat committee besides ensuring fair distribution of funds.

When asked if they could cite any instance of misuse of funds, they said that Shafquat Ali, son of Ghulam Hussain, who is resident of Badin district, had been sanctioned Rs10,000 under the permanent rehabilitation scheme, phase-II on the recommendation of the taluka zakat committee Tando Mohammad Khan.

They also produced documentary evidence to substantiate their allegations, saying that they had also filed complaints with the concerned department.
