KARACHI, Jan 11: In a late night development, President Asif Ali Zardari rang up MQM chief Altaf Hussain and assured him that no such step would be taken which would further increase confrontation among institutions, said a London-based MQM leader.

Muttahida leader Mustafa Azizabad told Dawn that President Zardari and Mr Hussain exchanged views on the overall situation and the MQM chief urged him to show restraint, avoid confrontation with institutions and try to resolve issues in an amicable manner.

President Zardari assured him that no such step would be taken which might increase the confrontation.
