ISLAMABAD, Jan 10: The Parliamentary Committee on National Security is likely to hand over to the government on Wednesday its report comprising recommendations on new terms of engagement with the US and Nato/Isaf in the war on terror and broad outlines of the country's relations with Afghanistan and India.

The 17-member committee was tasked with formulating new terms of engagement with the US and Nato after the attack in the Mohmand Agency by Nato forces which left 24 Pakistani soldiers dead on Nov 26 last year.

The committee has since then held a number of meetings and reviewed various documents, includingaccords reached between Pakistan and the US in the war on terror.

Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, who represented the Foreign Office during the committee's deliberations, told reporters that the government was seeking the parliament's wisdom and would reframe its foreign policy in accordance with the mandate given by the PCNS.

PCNS chairman Senator Raza Rabbani, who presided over the in-camera deliberations, told reporters that draft recommendations were almost final and needed to be fine-tuned in another meeting on Wednesday.

'We will give a broad outline for terms of engagement with the US and other countries, without going intodetails which was the prerogative of the Foreign Office and the government,' Mr Rabbani said.

He said the committee had given a final shape to its recommendations in the light of briefing given to it by Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar along with her team and the secretary of defence and expressed the hope these would be handed over to the government on Wednesday..

The meeting was attended by Maulana Fazlur Rahman, Haider Abbas Rizvi, Afrasyab Khattak, Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan, Ishaq Dar, Prof Khursheed Ahmad, Wasim Sajjad, Nadeem Afzal Chan, Abdul Rahim Mandokhel and Munir Khan Orakzai.
