KARAK: The residents of Chountra blocked the Indus Highway at Niazi Well stop on Sunday against the 48-hour-long power suspension to the area and excessive loadshedding.
The protest was organised by the Karak Qaumi Tehrik led by its district organiser Dr Imran. The enraged protesters shouted full-throated slogans against the prolong power suspension and Pesco.
While addressing the protesters Dr Imran and Gul Zeb said the people of entire Chountra remained in dark for 48 hours but the deputy director of Pesco Karak and other concerned staff did not bother to restore the supply to the areas.
The speakers demanded that the inefficient staff on Sabirabad-I and II feeders should be transferred forthwith.
They said that people were facing shortage of drinking water and other problems. The speakers also flayed the unscheduled loadshedding which was carried out for more then twenty hours in the district. They added they were also facing low-voltage problem due to which water pumps could not be run.
TWO KILLED: Two persons were killed and five others were seriously injured in two separate road accidents on Sunday.
Police said a motorcycle and a car collided near Ali Khel Chowk on Ghundi-Palosa Sar road. Three friends, who were riding the motorbike, sustained critical injuries.
They were rushed to district headquarters hospital Karak where Allaudin, resident of Sarobi, succumbed to his injuries.
The other two injured have been identified as Shahid Khan and Abdul Qadeer.
In the second incident, a man died and three persons sustained serious injuries when a passenger pick-up, going to Shakardara, fell into a deep ravine on Sabirabad-Shakardara road in Gurguri Eidal Khel area.
Police said the injured were taken to health centre Sabirabad where one injured identified as Khan Saeed succumbed to his injuries.
The other three injured identified as Ihsan, Samad and Junaid were referred to district headquarters hospital Karak.
