KARACHI, Jan 7: The suspected Balochistan chief of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan was killed and an aide of his was arrested during a shoot-out with police that also left two intelligence officials wounded in the Gulshan-i-Jamal area on Saturday, CID police claimed.

A statement issued by the Crime Investigation Department (CID), however, did not elaborate the reasons behind the presence of intelligence officials there and their role, if any, in the killing and arrest of the militants.

The CID police said that the suspects were involved in recent attacks on franchises of mobile companies in the city.

“Acting on a tip-off, the CID team led by SP Fayyaz Khan raided a place off the main Rashid Minhas Road,” said the CID statement.

“However, the militants fired at the police party that left two intelligence officials wounded. A counter attack killed one of the two armed men, later identified as Syed Yasin Shah alias Saeen alias Asghar Baloch. His accomplice Syed Qadir Shah was arrested.”

Arshad and Wajid, the two intelligence officials, were shifted to hospital.

It said the deceased militant recently executed two attacks on different mobile phone companies' franchises in Karachi.Last Monday at least four people were wounded in a grenade attack on a cellphone franchise in North Nazimabad.

Earlier on Dec 23, two men were killed and two others wounded in a gun and arson attack on the franchised shop of a foreign cellular company in the Shadman area of North Karachi.

A chilling video later released by the investigators showed at least two men shooting the franchise staff at pointblank before spilling petrol from a bottle in the shop, throwing the bottle out and setting the furniture on fire.

Apart from the attacks on the franchised shops, the suspected militants were also actively involved in killing individuals, who had refused to pay ransom, the CID police said, adding that the suspects had killed at least seven such people over the last two years.

“The police have seized two hand grenades, a TT pistol, a 9mm pistol and a car found in their possession.

“The arrested militant is being interrogated, which may lead to more disclosures and arrests,” added the statement.
