GUJRANWALA, Nov 25: PPP city president Chaudhry Khalid Humayun, his two drivers and a passerby were shot dead near the mini-stadium at the Sheikhupura Road on Monday.

Some 15 assailants intercepted the vehicle of Mr Humayun near the mini-stadium, when he was on way to his office, and opened fire.

Two drivers of Mr Humayun, Sarwar Bhatti of Khiali Shahpur and Kushhal Khan of Peshawar, died on the spot, whereas the PPP leader succumbed to bullet injuries while being shifted to the Mayo Hospital, Lahore.

His gunman, Mohammad Amin of Tetleymai, and two passersby, Mohammed Aziz and Shahid, were seriously injured and taken to the DHQ hospital. Shahid was later shifted to Mayo Hospital, Lahore, but could not survive.

On receiving information, SSP Saud Aziz and other senior officers along with a heavy police contingent reached the spot and later constituted five teams to arrest the accused.

However, till the last reports no arrests were made.

It is said that the incident was an outcome of an old enmity with the family of the president of a local fruit and vegetable agents association, Haji Mohammed Siddiq.

Mr Siddiq’s son Khurram Shahzad was killed some eight months ago and Mr Humayun and his father, Haji Mohammed Ishaq, were booked over charges of murder. They, however, managed to get bail from the Lahore High Court after remaining for a few months in the district jail.
