GUJRANWALA, Nov 25: A woman who came to meet with her son in the district jail was shot dead by an unidentified assailant here on Monday.

Rasulan Bibi (60) had gone to see her son Asghar Ali involved in a murder case. As she entered the meeting room, the accused shot her to death instantly and escaped. The motive behind the incident could not be known. The body of the deceased was shifted to the DHQ Hospital for autopsy.

Imran Khan had quarrelled with his parents before swallowing the pills. He died while being taken to the DHQ Hospital. The body of the deceased was handed over to his heirs.

BUSTED: Kotwali police claim to have busted a gang of pickpockets in a raid and recovered cash and wristwatches from their possession here on Monday.

On a tip-off that pickpockets were distributing the snatched cash among them, the police conducted the raid and arrested all of them. Those arrested, including ring leader Ishtiaq, Amjad Husain, Nasir Mahmood, Ghulam Murtaza and Rashid alias Bhota. Police also recovered Rs50,000 in cash and wristwatches from their possession.

Meanwhile, Alipur Chattha police also claim arresting a dozen members of two gangs of dacoits and robbers besides recovering a huge quantity of illicit arms and looted goods from them.

Acting on an information that outlaws were present at their hideout, a police team conducted a raid and arrested them after a brief encounter. Wazirabad ASP Waqar Chohan said the arrested outlaws were wanted by police in a dozen incidents of dacoity, robbery and other heinous crime.
