KARACHI, Dec 30: Taking cognizance of the massive Indian naval build-up in the region, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Asif Sandila on Friday called for improving professional excellence to counterbalance the numerical superiority of the adversary.

He was speaking at the annual efficiency competition parade and awards ceremony of Pakistan Navy held at the PN Dockyard.

The chief of the naval staff said that Pakistan Navy was playing a key role in undertaking maritime security operations at sea.

“Pakistan Navy is confronted with an adversary who is building up its naval strength in a big way much beyond its legitimate defence needs. We must therefore offset this numerical disadvantage with our professional excellence and ingenious employment of operational art,” he said.

He said the government was fully aware of the navy’s requirements and was providing all available resources to modernise and upgrade the navy to fulfil its objectives and keep it abreast of the fast-paced technological advancements.

“We are vigorously pursuing development strategy for building up a balanced fleet,” he said, adding that the induction of PNS Alamgir, Madadgar and Rasadgar over the year had added to the navy’s capability and operational flexibility.
