ISLAMABAD: Uzbekistan emerged as winning team of the second Benazir Bhutto International Boxing Championship here at the Liaquat Gymnasium on Thursday.

The winning team secured six gold, three silver and two bronze medals on the closing day of the event. A cash prize of $5,000 was also given to the winners.

The Syrian boxing team claimed second position in the event, winning two gold, two silver and a bronze medal besides cash award of $3,000.

Pakistan’s Mohammad Waseem won his bout in the final of the 52kg category defeating Kenya’s Benson Gicharu 26-9. He lifted the trophy of the event with a cash prize of $2,000.

In the final of the 91kg category, Mohammad Ghossoun from Syria defeated Tulaganov Rustamb from Uzbekistan 27-22.

In 81kg category, Rasulov Elshod from Uzbekistan sidelined Manaf Asaad from Syria 21-10, while in 49kg category Peter Mungai from Kenya defeated Monglia’s Ariunbold Ganselem 21-7.
