LAHORE, Nov 24: Punjab chief secretary Hafeez Akhtar Randhawa has directed that buildings bylaws should be amended to impose a ban on all kinds of construction within 200 feet of all archeological sites.

The chief secretary issued the directive while presiding over a meeting held here to discuss the condition of Jehangir Tomb and its Dilkusha Bagh. The meeting was attended by the Punjab information and culture secretary, Parks and Horticulture Authority director-general, Archeology director-general and Lahore Fort director.

The chief secretary was informed that the Dilkusha Bagh covering a major portion of 40-acre Jehangir’s Tomb had been encroached upon. The chief secretary ordered removal of all the encroachments for protecting the archeological site.
