RAWALPINDI, Nov 17: The Rawalpindi police have registered 2,189 cases during the last two months while 1,876 cases were registered in the corresponding period last year, reveals statistics collected from the police department by Dawn on Saturday.

According to the statistics, 73 incidents of vehicle-theft, 44 incidents of robbery, including 20 cases under 382 PPC, and two dacoity cases were reported to the police from September 1 to October 31. Whereas, four cases of dacoity and 47 robbery incidents had been reported to the Rawalpindi district police during the same corresponding period last year, the statistics showed.

Robbers and thieves deprived a large number of people of cash and valuables in 186 incidents of burglary and theft in the last 61 days. This shows that three cases of burglary and theft per day were reported in the district.

The robbers and thieves continued their activities despite extensive patrolling of the police in the city. “What is the use of a large number of police pickets at various points in the city?”, said a shopkeeper in the Commercial Centre.

The performance of the Rawalpindi police in the last two months is evident from the statistics, according to which 73 vehicles were stolen in just 61 days and cash and valuables worth Rs259,664,40 were stolen.

The police have also failed to show any noticeable achievement as far as the recovery of the stolen goods and vehicles is concerned. The people are of the view that even army monitoring teams have failed to improve the police performance.

According to the statistics, 30 murder, 56 attempted murder and 45 cases of kidnapping were reported in the district during the same period.
