KARACHI: MPA criticizes horse-trading

Published November 23, 2002

KARACHI, Nov 22: The People’s Party MPA from Ghotki, Jam Saifullah Dharejo, has said that a blatant attempt at horse trading by the regime, both at the Centre and in the provinces, would seriously undermine the country’s integrity and erode public faith in rule of law.

Mr Dharejo, who was at the centre of initial reports about the emerging forward bloc in Sindh, said that an attempt to block the way of PPP would further alienate the people of Sindh and the country might drift back into a situation faced in the 1970.

He said that in the past, horse-trading was not done in such a blatant way as was being practised by the regime, which, by its own admission, abhorred such a practice.

He was confident that the PPP would form the government in the province, despite “immoral act of buying loyalties.”

Mr Dharejo said negotiations were going on with various parties on government formation.
