DHAKA, Nov 22: Bangladesh has expressed amazement over India’s non-response to Dhaka’s request to hand over two Bangladeshi fugitives arrested in Kolkata on Nov 16.

“I am puzzled at India’s non-response,” said Foreign Secretary Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury on Thursday.

The Kolkata police arrested nine Bangladeshi ‘criminals’, including Liaquat, Arman, Kala Jahangir, Pichchi Hannan and Killer Abbas from the city’s New Market area. The police, however, released all excepting Liaquat and Arman.

Liaquat, accused in a number of murder and extortion cases, is known to have been a leader of the youth wing of Bangladesh Awami League, while Arman is one of his associate.

Soon after their arrest in India, Bangladesh requested the West Bengal government to hand over the two ‘top criminals’ to it on Nov 16. Bangladesh has also requested India to keep a vigil on the released suspects.
