Punjab PA summoned on 25th

LAHORE, Nov 21: The first session of the newly-elected Punjab Assembly has been convened on Nov 25 for the oath taking of the members and election of the speaker and deputy speaker, says an official announcement on Thursday.

The session has been summoned by President Gen Pervez Musharraf during which the elected speaker and deputy speaker will also take the oath of their office.

The governor has nominated speaker of the dismissed 1997-99 assembly and potential candidate for the Punjab chief ministership Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to preside over the inaugural session of the assembly. He will first take the oath and later administer the oath to the members.

The election of the speaker and the deputy speaker will be held on Nov 26 through secret ballot.

The speaker will be elected first and he will relieve the presiding officer after taking the oath of his office. Later, he will supervise election of the deputy speaker and prorogue the session.

The session will begin at 10am on Nov 25 and at 9am on Nov 26.
