KARACHI: State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) earned a handy first-innings lead of 132 runs against PIA on the second day of the penultimate round match in the Faysal Bank Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship Division I match at the National Cricket Ground in Islamabad on Friday.

Replying to PIA’s insufficient score of 137, SBP collected 269 all out in 70.5 overs after resuming at the overnight tally of 77-2. The highlights of their innings being the batting of Adnan Raees (54) and Rameez Aziz (76) who shared a fourth-wicket partnership of 105 after skipper Kashif Siddique was dismissed for 62.

Anwar Ali, the former Pakistan Under-19 paceman, grabbed 5-69 in 23 overs.

PIA then went to stumps at 82-2 in their second innings with Shaharyar Ghani (34) and Faisal Iqbal (21) involved in an unbroken stand of 52 after left-arm paceman Saad Altaf dismissed the left-handed opening pair of Agha Sabir (7) and skipper Kamran Sajid (15).

Wapda, who like PIA, SBP and Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) remain in contention for the Dec 20-24 final, reached 203-6 after bowling out Habib Bank for 245 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Wapda captain Aamir Sajjad scored 58 before he was run out.ZTBL claimed a precious first-innings lead of 54 by restricting the struggling National Bank side to 201 before going to stumps at 35-1 in their second innings at the LCCA Ground.

Earlier, Test discard Wahab Riaz snared one more wicket to end up with excellent figures of 7-74 in 21.1 overs after TBL resumed at their overnight total of 239-7.

Karachi Blues were in total command against Rawalpindi here at the National Stadium. After piling up 299 in their first innings, Karachi Blues shot out the visitors for a paltry 107 in 29 overs. Test reject Sohail Khan bowled with hostility and pace to rattle the Pindi batsmen while taking 5-30 in 10 overs.

Karachi Blues skipper Mohammad Sami decided against enforcing the follow on despite the big lead of 192 runs after learning that fellow paceman Tanvir Ahmed had broken down with an injury.

By close of play, Karachi Blues enjoyed an overall lead of 237 by making 45-1 in the second innings with Shahzaib Hasan caught in the slips for 24.

Earlier, Nasir Malik returned figures of 5-70 as the home team added 88 to their Thursday’s tally of 211-5. Ahmed Iqbal made 71.

Faisalabad require another 223 to defeat Islamabad in their relegation zone fixture after going to stumps at 32-1 at the Diamond Club Ground. Earlier, Islamabad earned a lead of 63 on the first innings before being all out for 191 in their second innings.The Abbottabad-Sialkot game at the Gohati Cricket Stadium in Swabi was heading for a close finish with Sialkot needing 160 for victory on Saturday.

Sialkot earned a slim lead of seven runs by totalling 104 in their first innings with Abbottabad opening bowlers Ikramullah Khan and Ahmed Jamal sharing all 10 wickets between them.

Abbottabad, however, stumbled again as they folded up inside 62 overs for 166 despite a fighting undefeated 50 by their skipper Khalid Usman.
