HYDERABAD, Nov 21: The members of the District Council, Hyderabad, on Thursday condemned the registration of a murder case against a union council Nazim, Manthar Jatoi, in connection with the killing of a girl, Shahnaz Jatoi, on the pretext of Karo-kari.
The Pinyari police on Wednesday lodged a case against six people, including the mother, brother, uncles, and Manthar Jatoi after receiving the postmortem report, which revealed that the girl had been strangulated.
Three of them have been arrested and three others — Zulfiqar, Manthar Jatoi, and Abdul Razzaq — remain absconding.
The district Nazim, Dr Makhdoom Rafiq Zaman, had earlier assured Manthar Jatoi that he would talk to the DPO to ensure that Manthar should also be inducted in an inquiry committee that was probing the case.
Shafqat Soho drew the attention of the chair towards the registration of the case against the member saying that if such practice continued the Nazims would find it hard to solve the police-related problems of their electorates.
He said that the FIR against Manthar Jatoi should be withdrawn and those who had registered the false case should be taken to task.
Majeed Wahidi supported the contention of Shafqat Soho saying that the case should be withdrawn immediately.
Our Bureau reports: The central body of Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM), at a meeting held at Sann the other day, condemned the military rulers for registration of false cases against Syed Imdad Mohammad Shah and government’s interference in the affairs of the Muttahida and Mohajir Qaumi Movements.
The chairman of the party, Shafi Mohammad Burfat, presided over the meeting.
The meeting observed that due to its numerical strength, Punjab had usurped the resources of the smaller provinces.
The meeting termed the Oct 10 elections ‘a democratic fraud’.
