THATTA, Nov 20: The Sindh government has reported the incident of beating and wrongful confinement of an assistant Mukhtiarkar by the personnel of Naval Task Force (NTF) to the president, the corps commander and the naval chief.

The provincial government has sought an inquiry into the matter.

The assistant Mukhtiarkar, Sujawal taluka revenue office, Mohammad Khan Khatri, had asked the Naval Task Force personnel to adopt proper procedure for demarcation of land, allotted by the Board of Revenue under the directives of the Sindh government in January 2001 for the establishment of an NTF base.

The NTF personnel had dragged the Mukhtiarkar out of his office on Tuesday and beaten him up. The Mukhtiarkar was later locked up in a room of his office for about five hours.

A large number of people reached the office and protested against the incident.

District Nazim Syed Shafqat Hussain Shah Shirazi told newsmen on telephone from Karachi that he had apprised Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro of the incident who had reported it to the quarters concerned.

The DDO, revenue, Amman Allah Jatoi, said the Board of Revenue, under the directives of the Sindh government, had leased out 600 acres of land on 99 years lease to the Naval Task Force for the establishment of its base at Sujawal, Jati and Chuhar Jamali.

The NTF, prior to the demarcation of the land, had established its camp there.

Jatoi said it had been brought to the notice that the land belonged to the forest department and without ascertaining the facts from the the department, the land could not be demarcated.
