JACOBABAD, Nov 20: The Taluka chief of the PPP, Jacobabad, and a pedestrian were shot dead on Wednesday near the DCO office.

Jacobabad Taluka People’s Party president Faiz Anwar Ali Shah who was also the former chairman of the local Zakat and Ushr Committee, was killed by four armed persons riding a motorcycle.

A lawyer, Ahmed Bux Ansari, who accompanied the deceased, escaped unhurt.

The deceased were taken to the Civil Hospital, Jacobabad, in critically injured condition but both succumbed to their injuries in the evening.

Our Sukkur correspondent adds: This was the second attempt on the life of Faiz Anwer Ali Shah.

Earlier, unidentified gunmen had opened fire on him in the last elections and he had narrowly escaped unhurt.

Panic and harassment gripped the area and offices and nearby shops were shut down after the incident.

The brother of Faiz Anwer, Syed Sabir Ali Shah, has lodged an FIR against four persons of the Motkani/Jakhrani tribe, including Allah Rakhio, Mohammad Rafiq and Mohammad Rahim.

The motive behind the fatal attack was said to be the murder of Murid Mirza Motkani, who was previously employed by Faiz Anwer Ali Shah.

The body of Murid Mirza body was found in the Peer Bakhsh Jakhrani village.

The Motkani tribe suspected Shah of being involved in the killing.

A Jirga had been held several meetings to settle the dispute without being conclusively proven that Shah was involved in Motkani’s murder.
