LAHORE, Nov 20: A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday issued a notice for the enhancement of sentence to a drug case convict approaching the court for release on bail.

Dismissing the bail application, the bench observed that the petitioner had been sentenced to only three years’ rigorous imprisonment and Rs50,000 fine whereas the punishment prescribed for the offence was death or imprisonment for life. He should show cause as to why his punishment should not be enhanced in accordance with the law.

The bench also directed the Sialkot Jail superintendent not to release the petitioner pending the decision in respect of enhancement of his term of imprisonment.

Petitioner Humayun Khan had been arrested in February in Sialkot after six kilograms of hashish and acetic anhydride was recovered from his residence. An additional district and sessions judge had convicted him in October.

MEDICAL REPORTS: An Ehtesab bench directed the Kot Lakhpat Jail medical superintendent to get former director NICFC Azizul Haq Qureshi and Imtiaz Babar medically examined and submit report for considering their bail applications.

Central Board of Revenue former collector Shaukat Ali Bhatti challenged the accountability court’s decision to summon him in connection with Seth Nisar case. The former collector is facing charges of involvement in Rs850 million misappropriation.
