Ex-serviceman shot dead

RAWALPINDI, Dec 2: A retired air commodore was shot dead in his car here on Friday night.

Police said Rehmatullah Khan was found dead on the driving seat of his car which was parked outside Rose Garden of Chaklala Scheme III.

Police said a passerby spotted a Honda car and a man lying on its driving seat at night and later informed the police post which was about 500 feet from the scene.

The SSP Potohar Division quoted the man who informed the police as saying that he had heard gunshots from park side. Later, the police reached the scene and found that the victim was shot in his neck from right side by the person who seemed to be sitting on the back seat.

However, no weapon was found from inside the car except two bullet cases. —Staff Reporter

Five Ulema banned

TAXILA, Dec 2: The local administration on Friday banned entry of five firebrand speakers of different sects in Taxila and Wah Cantonment.

According to notification, they will not enter, reside or remain in twin cities during Muharram to maintain law and order. The names of the Ulema are Maulana Mohammad Hussain Mudadasi, Maulana Ali Haider, Maulana Shabbir Ahmed Usmani, Maulana Mohammad Sadeeq and Maulana Abdul Salam.—Correspondent

Target killer arrested

TAXILA, Dec 2: Wah Saddar police on Friday claimed to have arrested a target killer and recovered from him weapons. Addressing a press conference at Wah Saddar police station on Friday, sub-divisional police officer DSP Raja Taifoor Akhter said acting on a tip off, a police party raided a hideout of Waseemullah near Nawababad and arrested him.

He said the accused confessed to working as hired assassin and was involved in target killing cases in Wah Cantonment and Khyber Pakthunkhwa. The DSP said the accused had killed Sadaqat Shah in Hattar (KP), Azam Khan in Wah Cantt, Ghulam Qadir in Kot Najeebullah (KP) and made attempt on the life of Arshad Farooqi in Wah Cantonment.—Correspondent
