KALAYA: Nine militants were killed and several others injured on Thursday when security forces pounded their hideouts in upper Orakzai, according to official sources.

Taliban strongholds in Akhun Kot, Barlas, Adokhel and other areas of Mamozai came under attack. Three hideouts were destroyed.

Security forces have claimed considerable gains in the military operation continuing for the last 15 days.

People in Mir Qalamkhel, Adokhel, Akhunzadgan Kalli, Jabba, Arghanju, Tali, Ashraf Maseh Kalli and other villages of Mamozai have vacated their houses and moved to safe places because of the fighting between security forces and militants.

At least 180 militants have been killed and 72 others injured in the operation so far, according to the sources. Several security personnel, two officers among them, have been killed.
