LAHORE: The marathon meeting of the PCB Governing Board which was held here on Tuesday, failed to devise clear-cut procedures to tackle major issues and the officials kept their primary focus on the game’s infrastructure, especially a stadium in Garhi Khuda Bukhsh.
The GB meeting was held under the new chairman Zaka Ashraf for the first time.
The meeting lasted eight long hours before ending late into the night, giving an impression that top issues like the restoration of bilateral series with India and the settlement with Bangladesh over the matter of nomination of ICC vice-president (to be appointed next year) would have been discussed at the country’s top-level cricket meeting.
However, sources said neither the PCB chairman nor any member of the Governing Board gave any visibly particular emphasis on both these matters.
Both the issues are also important, since Zaka has himself announced that he will be visiting India and Bangladesh in December to resolve these matters.
However, the chairman, according to sources, ensured the GB members that he will inform them about the progress on the two subjects after visiting India and Bangladesh, which at least indicates indirectly the limited say of the GB members on these matters.
Meanwhile, sources said the chairman also emphasised the completion of stadium in Garhi Khuda Bukhsh before Dec 29, and new academies in Karachi and Multan.
Sources further said no decision could be taken to take steps in making amendments in the PCB constitution, which would allow in future the PCB chairman to get elected in accordance with ICC instructions, instead of the Board chief getting nominated by the president of Pakistan.
It is interesting to note that after the GB meeting the PCB neither arranged any official media briefing, nor issued any news release, even on Wednesday.
