MUMBAI: India’s selectors on Friday named opener Virender Sehwag to lead the side in an upcoming home One-day International series against the West Indies after deciding to rest regular captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made the announcement in a press release, in which it named the squad for the first three games.

Tendulkar, who is one ton short of 100 international centuries, has been rested for the three games while Dhoni has been rested for the entire series.

World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh has been ruled out after telling selectors he is “not fully fit.”

Pace bowler Zaheer Khan has been left out because he is recovering from an ankle injury. Experienced off-spinner Harbhajan Singh is also out of the team.

The series begins in the eastern city of Cuttack on Nov 29 with other games in Visakhapatnam (Dec 2), Ahmedabad (Dec 5), Indore (Dec 8) and Chennai (Dec 11).
