Four-goal Hassan slams match winner

LAHORE, Nov 18: Two matches were decided on the first day of the Chrysanthemum Cup polo tournament Monday.

Four goals by Syed Hassan Gillani enabled Master Paints to beat Thuraya 8 1/2-5. Jamal Iftikhar netted two goals while Tanvir Tariq and Ashfaq added a goal each. Half goal was given on handicap.

Ahmad Nawaz Tiwana and Sufi Amir scored three and two goals for the losers.

The first chukker was closely contested as both teams scored a goal each. Ahmad scored his first converting a 60 yard penalty.

Jamal struck for Master Paints to maintain the lead.

Ahmad put Thuraya ahead 2-1 1/2 in the second chukker, crowning a field attempt. But Hassan scored two goals to regain the lead for Master making it 3 1/2-2.

The winners surged ahead 4 1/2-2 when Tanvir added one goal in the third chukker.

Ahmad, however scored his third and last goal to reduce the margin. But Jamal Iftikhar and Ashfaq scored a goal each in to increase the lead 6-1/2-3.

In the fourth chukker four goals were scored, two by each side. Hassan scored twice while Amir slammed two for the losers.

Sufi Haris and Raja Amir Khan scored three goals each to help Holiday Inn beat Millennium Bug 8-4.

Ahmad Zubair and Kashif Jamal scored a goal each for the winners. Shamyl Alam scored all four goals for the losers.

Holiday Inn got off to a flying start leading 3-1 by the end of the first chukker. Haris scored twice while Ahmad one.

Shamyl scored his second goal in the next chukker to narrow the margin to 2-3.

The third chukker was thrilling as five goals were scored, three by Holiday and two by Millennium. Amir, Haris and Kashif netted one goal for the winners while Shamyl slammed two goals for the losers.

In the fourth chukker, Holiday widened the margin of the lead 8-4 when Amir scored his remaining two goals.
