FAISALABAD, Nov 18: The Tehsil Municipal Administration (city) has rejected all developmental projects which were announced during the last two months and invited new tenders worth Rs220 million.

The TMA had earlier invited tenders for hundreds of approved schemes, including the sewerage system, construction of roads, setting up parks, upgradation of greenbelts, installation of streetlights, construction of walls of schools and graveyards, in different parts of the city.

These development projects were approved for Naseerabad, Mughalpura, Manzoor Park, Ashrafpura, Sanat Singwala, Anob Singwala, Dhuddiwala, Rachna Town, Rasool Nagar, Noorpur, Mansoorabad, Saeed Colony, Naamat Colony, Kohinoor Nagar, Madina Town, Hasanpura, Yousafabad, Himatpura, Kehkashan Colony, Iqbal Nagar, Al-Najaf Colony, People’s Colony, Dogar Basti, Satiana Road, Muhammadi Colony, Fatehabad, Jailanipura, Sharifpura, Ganda Singwala, Sohailabad, Batala Colony, Muhammadabad, Gul Bahar Colony, Haseen Shaheed Colony, Garden Colony, Maqbool Road, Sarfraz Colony and Dogranwan Road falling in NA-83 from where Mushtaq Ali Cheema, the brother of city Nazim Mumtaz Ali Cheema, has won elections on the PML-ticket.

Earlier, the TMA had not only approved tenders for a number of projects but also inaugurated dozens of schemes by holding corner meetings in connection with the elections of Mushtaq Cheema. But now the city Nazim has rejected all the tenders and invited new ones without giving any reason.

TMA insiders said rejection of all the tenders and schemes was a pre-planned move of the city Nazim as the same were announced just to befool the citizens to get votes for Mushtaq Cheema in the general elections. They further alleged the ‘commission mafia’ in the TMA had started a bargaining with the contractors to get accepted their tenders with a 15 to 20 per cent share of profit.

A TMA spokesman said new tenders would be invited within a couple of days.

Citizens have urged the governor to take action against the city Nazim for this ‘blunder’ and hold a probe to find the reason for the rejection of these tenders.
