LARKANA, Nov 17: A group of singers and writers, under the banner of the Awaz Group, took out a procession here on Sunday against the killings of story writer Malik Agani and his son Tanveer.
Led by Mohammad Saleh Abbasi, the protesters gathered outside the press club after marching on main roads of the city.
They criticized the police for their failure to arrest the killers and termed the double murder a conspiracy to hush up the voice against feudalism.
Later, ten men, including Javed Abro, Saindad Khakhrani and Ghulam Shabbir Khushk, observed a token hunger strike.
Meanwhile, the Sindhi Adabi Sangat, Barani Mughri branch, at a meeting held on Sunday, demanded the immediate arrest of the killers of Agani and his son.
Speaking at the meeting, Karim Baloch, Ada Fazal Qazi and others said Agani was among the pioneer leaders of the Sindhi Hari Tehrik and he had raised voice against atrocities of the landlords.
Muhsin Channa presided over the meeting.
DEMO: A group of primary teachers held a protest demonstration on Friday demanding a bonus for Eid in their salaries.
The protesters were led by Irshad Tunio, and Siraj Kalhoro.
After marching through various roads, the protesters stopped in front of the press club.
They demanded that more benefits be provided to the primary teachers of Sindh.
NEWSMAN DIES: A senior journalist and the founder member of the Larkana Press Club, Qaimuddin Mangi, died of protracted illness on Friday. He was 80.
He started his career as a correspondent for The Sun, based at Larkana.
He later worked for various Sindhi and Urdu newspapers as a reporter.
