Killer gets death on three counts

SIALKOT, Nov 17: The additional district and sessions judge awarded death sentence on three counts with a fine of Rs150,000 to a convict in a triple-murder case here on Saturday.

According to the prosecution, Pervaiz had killed a landlord, Mohammad Afzal, his wife, Naziran Bibi, and their son, Arif, over an old enmity in Kotli Malhiyan, Satrah, Daska tehsil, on March 13, 1997.

In another case, the judge also awarded death sentence with a fine of Rs50,000 to a convict, Akram, for killing a youth, Arshad, over a petty dispute in Sohawa, Daska city, on Dec 2, 1998.

Meanwhile, on the orders of addition district and sessions judge Nazir Ahmad Langah, the Civil Lines police have registered a case against district jail’s two officials Bao Javaid and Munir Goraya for torturing a prisoner, Nadeem.

A departmental probe has also been ordered against these officials.

JOURNALIST DIES: Muhammad Riaz Bhalli, a local journalist, died after a protracted illness here on Sunday. He was 42.

He was the bureau chief of Urdu daily Insaf in Sialkot and stringer of Reuters.

He left behind a widow, three sons and a daughter.

Scores of people belonging to all walks of life attended his funeral prayers. He was laid to rest in his native graveyard at Rangpura, Sialkot.

Qul will be held at his residence in Rangpura on Monday (today) at 8.30 am.
