ISLAMABAD, Nov 17: AJK President Sardar Mohammad Anwar Khan said on Sunday that Kashmir is the main cause of tension between India and Pakistan which can trigger a war anytime.

In an interview with Radio France, he said as long as tension prevailed the danger of an accidental war was always there. Once a war started, it was very difficult to contain it, he warned.

Answering a question, Sardar Anwar asked that if the Maharaja of Kashmir had signed the letter of accession at the time of partition of the subcontinent then what had prompted India to pledge to the Security Council the holding of plebiscite. India’s first prime minister, Pandit Nehru was on record having said many times that the future of Kashmir would be determined in accordance with the wishes of the people of Kashmir, he said.

The president said India was the biggest hurdle in the way towards resolving the Kashmir issue.

Sardar Anwar emphasized that the Kashmiris’ freedom struggle had started long before Al Qaeda came into being and added that the movement in Kashmir was indigenous and the Kashmiris were directly involved in it.

He said India wanted to take advantage of the Sept 11 incidents. After having failed to suppress the Kashmiris’ struggle by using force, India wanted to secure its objective by linking the Kashmir movement to terrorism, he said.

India was making unavailing efforts to win international sympathies by projecting Kashmiris’ freedom struggle as terrorism, Sardar Anwar said.—APP
