City tehsil allocates Rs80m for uplift

GUJRANWALA, Nov 16: The city tehsil council allocated Rs80 million for development projects and invited tenders on Saturday.

At a meeting presided over by Naib Nazim Ehsanullah Chaudhry, Nazim Babu Javed Ahmad announced that the funds would be divided equally among union councils without any discrimination.

He said women councillors would also be given Rs50,000 each for the uplift of their jurisdiction.

He said the city tehsil council also allocated Rs800,000 for the construction of burn unit in the DHQ hospital.

The meeting formed various sub-committees to supervise implementation of projects. The meeting was told that construction of streets, drains, roads, streetlights, boundary wall of graveyard and installation of water filters were the priorities of the city council.

Opposition leader Sheikh Iqbal and other members appreciated the Nazim for the distribution of funds and extended their cooperation for the welfare of people.

The conveners of various sub-committees and other senior officers of council also participated in the meeting.

Two SHOs held: Two SHOs were sent to jail when an anti-corruption court rejected their bail application on Saturday.

Sialkot city SHO Nasir Warraich and Sialkot Sadar SHO Saifullah allegedly received Rs23,000 bribe from two people for favouring them in criminal cases. They were booked by the Anti-Corruption Establishment. However, they got interim bail.

They were present in the court for confirmation of their bail. Police arrested them after rejection of their bail.

Meanwhile, the bail application of industrialist Mubashar Hasan involved in electricity theft was also rejected by an additional district and sessions judge.

Five shot at: Dacoits shot at and injured five people in Garjakh on Saturday.

Four men were planning a dacoity in a Hamidpura street when residents challenged them. The suspicious-looking men run away. The residents chased the dacoits who opened fire.

As a result, Muhammad Rafiq, Muhammad Hanif, Muhammad Latif, Muhammad Ismail and Muhammad Asghar were injured. Their condition was stated to be critical at the civil hospital.

According to Rafiq, some days ago the dacoits looted three houses in the locality after locking the inmates in a room. The area police refused to register the case.

Another five dacoits looted the house of a teacher of the Government Higher Secondary Girls School, Ghakhar.

The dacoits entered into the house of Ms Shabana by scaling the boundary wall.

They locked up the inmates in a room, and escaped with Rs25,000, prize bonds, 20 tola gold jewellery, two mobile phones, wrist watches and other valuables, worth hundreds of thousands of rupees.
