KARACHI: The Jiwani area of Balochistan received rain on Tuesday due to the strong weather system developing over central parts of the Arabian Sea on Sunday.

The system may cause heavy rain/thunderstorm with strong gusty winds over the Makran coast on Wednesday morning and in Karachi and some other coastal areas of Sindh in the evening.

An official of the Met office said the weather system, which was about 200km south of Salalah, was likely to turn into a cyclone and move to South Oman and adjoining coastal areas on Wednesday.

The Met office has advised fishermen in Balochistan not to venture out into the sea till Thursday, saying the sea conditions were likely to remain ‘rough’ to ‘very rough’ during the period. However, it said fishermen of Sindh might continue their activities along the coast.

The department said the tropical depression was now located at 16 degree N and 56 degree E.

Under another weather system, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir may receive scattered rain on Wednesday. The weather generally remained dry on Tuesday, with isolated rain in Makran and Malakand divisions, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
