UMERKOT, Nov 1: The Corps Commander of Karachi, Lt-Gen Mohammad Zaheerul Islam, visited a relief camp set up by the army and a field hospital established by the Chinese army at Cheel Bund near here on Tuesday.

He was briefed by Col Le Moung Ho of the People's Liberation Army of China on services provided to people displaced by recent heavy rains.

He was informed that 28 doctors and paramedics had treated 3,000 people. The unit is providing surgery, x-ray, ultrasound, pharmacy and other facilities.

Later, Lt-Gen Islam visited the relief camp where around 700 tents have been installed and over 6,000 people were getting food and water. Besides, a hospital, there are schooling, recreation and vocational centres.

Talking to reporters, the corps commander praised the efforts and cooperation of the government of China. He said the relationship between Pakistan and China had now become a strong bond of friendship.

He said China always responded quickly to disasters and always helped Pakistan in its time of distress.—Correspondent
