ISLAMABAD, Nov 15: The British High Commission has sought permission of the interior ministry for construction of a “blast wall” around residential compound in the diplomatic enclave, an official source said on Friday.

The request from the British authorities came after a two- member team of security experts visited the diplomatic enclave and observed inadequate security measures, the source said. The source added that the security experts suggested replacement of the existing wall with one kilometre-long “blast wall”.

In view of the security experts’ report, the British authorities held a meeting with the high-ups of the Capital Development Authority, who formed a two-member committee to look into the prospects of wall construction. The committee comprises a police officer and a CDA official.
