SUKKUR, Oct 1: The doctors and paramedics of Sukkur including that of the civil hospital, Sukkur, took out a procession and held a sit-in on Monday against the non-recovery of Dr Noor Ahmed Qasmi and a medical representative, Ghaffar Soomro, who were kidnapped some 15 days ago from Abad Lakha.

The doctors were led by the medical superintendent, Sukkur, Dr Ali Jan.

The doctors marching through various roads reached Masoom Shah Minara where they held a sit-in for an hour. They later went to the Clock Tower where they raised slogans against the police and the administration for failing to recover Dr Qasmi and Mr Soomro.

They demanded that the police officials of the area be suspended.Later they went to the National Press Club, Sukkur, where they addressed a press conference in which they threatened to observe strike for three or four hours daily if Dr. Qasmi and Mr Soomro were not recovered safely within three days.

They charged that senior police officials knew about the kidnappers but they were afraid of raiding their hideout for the recovery of the hostages.

They claimed that no one would be released until their relatives paid ransom, which was why the police was taking so long to recover the hostages.

The newly-posted SSP, Sukkur, Din M Baloch, and District Nazim Syed Nasir Hussain Shah assured the doctors at the National Press Club that the culprits would be arrested soon and the hostages would be released.

The patients at the Civil Hospital and Government Anwer Piracha Hospital had to suffer till the time the doctors were on strike.
