KARACHI: Inspired by another hostile burst of pace bowling from the impressive Tabish Khan, Karachi Whites outclassed Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) by 111 runs in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship Division II fixture at the NBP Sports Complex here on Friday.
Tabish, fresh from his career-best effort of 7-38 in the first innings, again proved his credentials as one of the most promising fast bowlers on the circuit still being overlooked by the national selectors by grabbing seven for 52 as KRL crashed to 193 all out in the second innings after starting the last day of the four-day match at 121-3.
The 26-year-old Tabish finished with a magnificent match bag of 14 wickets for 90 runs to become the leading bowler in Division II segment with 33 victims at a remarkable average of 12.12 per scalp.
Karachi Whites’ third win in four matches took their tally of points to 27 and put them third in the standings behind joint leaders Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Peshawar who both have maximum 36 points after winning all four of their matches thus far in the competition.
Peshawar’s latest success came against United Bank who suffered a heartbreaking 153-run debacle at the Arbab Niaz Stadium.
Former Test paceman Riaz Afridi took 6-64 as the bankers capitulated inside 77 overs for 210 in the second innings.
Usman Salahuddin, the 20-year-old Lahore Ravi captain who played two One-day Internationals on the West Indies tour last May, scored his second ton of the drawn tie against Multan at the Gaddafi Stadium.
Lahore Ravi opted to bat out time after starting the day at 21-1. Usman, who struck 13 boundaries in his 200-ball innings, was not the only one to celebrate on Friday because 25-year-old Hafiz Mohammad Zohaib, having never scored a half-century in previous eight first-class games, followed his first-innings’ 97 with 103 not out. The wicket-keeper/batsman, who slammed 16 fours in his 270-ball knock, added 232 for the unfinished third-wicket stand with Usman.
Abid Ali scored a century on his first-class debut as Quetta drew with Lahore Shalimar at the LCCA Ground. The 18-year-old Abid, who made just five in the first innings, scored exactly 100 not out (241 balls, 10 boundaries) while sharing an unbroken partnership of 232 with Taimur Ali, the 20-year-old who struck 129 from 223 deliveries with 11 fours.
