ISLAMABAD, Nov 16: Former judge of the Lahore High Court, Malik Mohammad Qayyum made his maiden appearance as an advocate of Supreme Court on Thursday.

Malik Qayyum, who appeared on behalf of Chenab Textile Mills, won the case. He was welcomed by opponent counsel Raja Mohammad Akram.

Soon after coming out of courtroom, Malik Qayyum talked to the press. He said that he was pleased that the Supreme Court welcomed him as lawyer.

Asked if the Supreme Court welcome was enough compensation for the dishonour he faced due to the court’s remarks against him, he said: “To some extent.”

Asked how he felt appearing as a lawyer, he said that bench and bar were two wheels of the same chariot and he felt comfortable. The legal profession, he said, was equally dignified.

When asked to comment on his unceremonial exit from the superior judiciary, Malik Qayyum said he had sought retirement at his own and was under no pressure from anybody.
