SWABI, Nov 14: The fate of the three students, suspended by the management of Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Topi, is expected to be decided within the next few days.

Sources told Dawn on Wednesday that their file has been prepared and all the aspects of their case were discussed by the GIK management.

Their parents, the sources said, had also visited the institute and appealed for reconsideration of their suspension.

The inquiry body which found the three students of third year — Taimur Shah, Jebran and Farhan — guilty of provoking their colleagues to stage a strike when they protested against the GIK management and put forward a list of demands.

The sources said the decision of the inquiry committee was also endorsed by the discipline committee. The inquiry committee, the sources said, had sent its findings to the rector, who is authorized to take a final decision in the case.

The sources said that the issue had also come under discussion in the governing council of the institute.

Two of the three suspended students, the sources said, had already explained their position to the governing council and the third student is expected to attend the next meeting of the council. Each one of them had also submitted their respective written statements about the protest, the sources added.

The board of governors, the sources said, would also hold its meeting in the next two or three days to discuss the issue.

When contacted, the dean of faculty of mechanical engineering Dr Javed Ahmad Chattha told Dawn that the final decision about the fate of the suspended students would be taken by the rector.
