JAC rallies in major cities

LAHORE, Nov 14: Teachers, doctors and students again on Thursday organized protest demonstrations in all major cities of the country against the promulgation of the Model University Ordinance and the constitution of boards of governors in educational and health institutions.

The protesters strongly condemned the latest move in which President General Pervez Musharraf promulgated the Model University Ordinance just two days before the formation of the new government.

Joint Action Committee leaders Nazim Hasnain, Prof Yasmin Rashid, Prof Haris Rasheed visited on Thursday different departments of the Punjab University and other colleges in the city.

Addressing teachers and students, the JAC leaders condemned the Punjab government for setting up ‘bogus’ universities through ordinances. They said the police also baton-charged students during a protest rally in Faisalabad and arrested three dozen students on Thursday.
