MULTAN, Nov 14: A number of NGOs staged a demonstration here on Thursday to demand commutation of Kasi’s death sentence.

Dozens of people assembled before the local Press Club chanting anti-US slogans. They were led by the PPP’s MPA-elect, Dr Javed Siddiqi, and All Pakistan Youth Alliance central president Shahid Mehmood Ansari. They were carrying banners and placards inscribed with their demand and anti-American sentiments.

Speaking on the occasion, the protesters said the trial and sentence of Kasi violated the basic norms of justice and was sheer highhandedness of America in league with the Pakistani agencies. They alleged that a former Pakistan head of state had got Kasi trapped for the promised reward.

Some of the demonstrators also demanded a retrial. They later dispersed peacefully.
