KARACHI, Nov 14: A division bench of the Sindh High Court on Thursday asked deputy attorney-general and assistant advocate-general, Sindh, to trace Fazl-i- Karim, driver of Maulana Saud Fatani wanted by the Sindh police in the kidnapping and murder case of US journalist Daniel Pearl.

The bench consisted of Chief Justice Sayed Saeed Ashhad and Justice Ghulam Rabbani.

Rehana, wife of Fazl-i-Karim, in her petition challenged the alleged illegal detention of her husband.

Her counsel, Khwaja Naveed Ahmed, contended that the officials concerned were hiding facts and the detainee was in their custody as he was picked up by law-enforcing agencies who raided the petitioner’s house and took him away.

He said he knew witnesses who were in prison with Fazl, which was proof that the detainee had been kept in a jail in Sindh. The court told the petitioner’s counsel to submit affidavit of those witnesses.

The state counsel, however, submitted that the presence of Fazal could not be ascertained in any prison of Sindh.

The court adjourned the hearing of the petition to Nov 28.

The same bench also reserved order in another petition filed by Shakeela Begum, wife of Haji Ghulam Abbas detained by Pakistan Air Force authorities at Islamabad.— PPI/APP
