DERA GHAZI KHAN: PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif said here on Wednesday that he supported creation of new provinces like Bahawalpur and South Punjab on administrative basis to provide better facilities to the people.
Addressing a public meeting here, his first since 1997 when he came here as prime minister during an election campaign, he said he would be the first to sign any document seeking establishment of more provinces on administrative grounds.
Mr Sharif said he had no desire to topple the PPP-led coalition government, but he wanted to provide basic amenities to the people of Pakistan.
He said that his party's 'agenda of development' had been interrupted several times in the past despite the fact that once it had two-thirds majority in the National Assembly.
He said that he was coming from Sindh where there was no relief camp for flood-stricken people and neither the central nor the provincial government was there to help them.
He claimed that it was only the Punjab government which had sent a consignment of relief goods worth Rs550 million to Sindh. He criticised Asif Ali Zardari for describing the US operation in Abbottabad as a great success in an article he wrote for US newspapers.
“Was it a success of Pakistan or of America,” he asked. Referring to the all parties conference, Mr Sharif said the PML-N had attended it because it was about the security of the country.
He said national economy was decaying by the day and the government was engaged in printing currency notes.
The public meeting was held in Dera Ghazi Khan stadium and its arrangements had been by the district government.
A large number of PML-N lawmakers and activists from the four districts of Dera Ghazi Khan division attended the meeting.
