ISLAMABAD, Nov 13: Civil Judge Abdulqayum on Wednesday summoned Dr. M. Azhar Quraishy, Executive Director of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), Dr. Riaz Bashir Naro, Assistant Director (Critical Area) and Chief Executive Pharmex of fair price shop to appear before the court on December 19, said an official statement.
The summons were issued during preliminary hearing of a suit of damages to the tune of Rs 50 million filed against the Pims administration and the Pharmex fair price shop for alleged negligence, which resulted in the death of Javed, a young patient of Haemophilia. The patient was administered a wrong injection.
Nadir Altaf advocate pleading on behalf of the complainant said Javed died due to negligence of the respondents, and the complainant deserved compensation according to the law.
It may be recalled that Javed was admitted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences on March 26, 2002. The doctor prescribed him injection Transamin. His cousin took the prescription to the pharmacy shop situated on the hospital premises. But the shop staff gave him a wrong injection, which he provided to the medical staff of the emergency ward.
The injection was administered to the patient, but he fell unconscious and went into coma within minutes. The patient remained in coma till his death on July 27, 2002.
