ISLAMABAD, Nov 12: In order to radiate credible combat power in its area of interest, Pakistan Navy (PN) is actively pursuing the acquisition of F-22 frigates from China.

This was stated by the Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Shahid Karimullah, while speaking to the officers of Pakistan Navy at Bahria Auditorium in Islamabad.

The government has accorded approval to carry out negotiations, which are underway and very soon these latest state-of-the-art ships will be flying Pakistani flag, he added.

He told the officers that contract for construction of guided missile boats had also been concluded.

The naval chief said acquisition of these missile boats and ships equipped with latest guided missiles would enhance the strike capability of Pakistan Navy manifold.

“We are also pursuing a number of upgradation and modernization programmes both through utilizing our local expertise and foreign assistance in order to fulfil the demands of the fleet,” he said.

Admiral Shahid said: “We have a treacherous enemy who misses no opportunity to take advantage and thrust hostilities upon us, therefore, it is imperative that we remain fully prepared and alive to the situation for countering the nefarious designs of our adversary.”

Reposing confidence in the officers and sailors of Pakistan Navy, Admiral Shahid said navy personnel were a great asset to the country and it was their motivation, professional competence, devotion and firm belief which made the difference.

Appreciating the morale of officers and men during the recent tense situation, the naval chief, said that internal unity, cohesion and discipline were the most important factors for any fighting force to be effective during the hour of crisis.

He hoped that in future as well, enemy would find the Pakistan Navy always ready and vigilant to defend the sea frontiers at all costs. — APP
