NEW DELHI: India’s union cabinet has approved the proposal to allow Haj subsidy for 125,000 pilgrims this year under the government’s subsidy scheme. Each pilgrim will have to pay Rs16,000 as fare.
The number of pilgrims going through the Haj Committee of India is decided by the ministry of external affairs which is the nodal ministry for Haj affairs. The cost of air travel of pilgrims undertaking Haj through the committee is borne partly by the pilgrims and partly subsidised by the government.
Haj flights would be operated from 21 embarkation points this year.—Dawn/The Times of India News Service
